Österåker Municipality secures reliable mobile coverage in its new multi-purpose arena
Covering more than 13,000 square metres, Österåker’s new multi-purpose arena is a modern sports and activity centre featuring six dedicated halls for floorball, basketball, athletics, gymnastics, table tennis and climbing – with space for much more.

The Challenge
In addition to ensuring reliable mobile connectivity for payment and booking services, Österåker Municipality wanted to provide visitors with dependable mobile coverage for calls, streaming and everyday mobile use.
MIC Nordic had previously collaborated with local broadband provider Winther Wireless on several projects. Together with Österåker Municipality, the goal was to create an indoor coverage solution that would provide reliable connectivity for all mobile operators throughout the arena.
The Solution
Following a detailed review of drawings, on-site measurements and cable routing studies, MIC Nordic designed a solution consisting of 21 indoor antennas and five off-air repeaters supporting Telia, Tele2, Telenor and Tre.
The arena features a distinctive architectural design with a strong focus on aesthetics and artistic expression. It was therefore essential that the installation remained as discreet and visually unobtrusive as possible, without compromising technical performance. At the same time, the solution had to deliver robust and reliable coverage throughout the areas identified by the customer.
The Result
The system was commissioned in February 2023 and has performed entirely according to expectations. The arena now benefits from reliable mobile coverage throughout the sports halls, cafés, corridors and public areas.
According to the municipality, mobile communications within the arena perform exceptionally well – exactly as residents and visitors expect from a modern facility.
